Beskrivning
This finely executed Dutch sea chart shows the southeastern coast of Madagascar, including the Bay of St. Augustine (Baai van S. Augustyn) and the fortified settlement of Fort Dauphin (Tolanaro). The map is composed with radiating rhumb lines, compass roses, coastal profiles, and place names of key ports and anchorages, all designed to aid navigators approaching this vital region for the Dutch East India Company (VOC).
