This engraving depicts the Brasilian Toad, now generally identified as the Cane Toad or Marine Toad, shown from a dorsal view with distinct patterned skin. This print is a natural history illustration for George Shaw’s monumental work, “General Zoology, or Systematic Natural History,” specifically from the volume dedicated to Amphibia. 

George Shaw was an English botanist and zoologist, notable as a co-founder of the Linnean Society and a keeper of the natural history department at the British Museum. His major contributions include his systematic, multi-volume “General Zoology” and being one of the first to provide a scientific description of the Australian platypus, alongside his collaborations on "The Naturalist's Miscellany."
