This etching, executed in the style of the Italianate Baroque, depicts a busy pastoral scene where a large herd of sheep and cattle, including a prominent ox, is being driven across a path within a classical landscape. The central action focuses on the animals, guided by young figures on the left. On the right, a dramatically posed, semi-nude shepherd figure gestures into the distance. The composition is characteristic of the pastoral landscapes favored by Northern European artists who studied in or were influenced by Roman artistic traditions.
