Plate 217, Statue of Venus

Antique engraving depicting the Statue of Venus, shown half-naked, standing in profile facing right. She holds her draped cloak in her right hand and an apple in her left. This print originates from Girolamo Teti's "Aedes Barberinae ad Quirinalem a comite Hieronymo Tetio Perusino descriptae," published in Rome by Mascardus in 1642.
The plate is numbered "217" in the top right corner and bears the signature in the lower part: "Saluius Castell: Aretin: del:" and "M" and "C. Bloemaert sculp:".

Cornelis Bloemaert (1603–1692) was a Dutch engraver. He was born in Utrecht and trained by his father, the painter Abraham Bloemaert. Bloemaert specialized in copperplate engraving and worked with many well-known artists. He moved to Rome in 1630, where he remained for the rest of his life. Bloemaert is known for his detailed engravings of artworks, portraits, and religious subjects.
