”Brussels”

A decorative hand-coloured city plan of Brussels by John Rapkin (vignettes by J. Watkins) originates from Thomas Wright’s ”Universal Pronouncing Dictionary”. The work was published in London by London Printing and Publishing House, ca 1851.

The vignettes show: Hotel de Ville, Church of St. Gudule, Brussels near the Porte D'Andelecht, Avenue in the Park Palace Royal.

John Rapkin was a British cartographer and engraver known for his detailed and decorative maps, particularly of cities in Europe. His works often featured ornate designs and illustrations, making them both functional and visually appealing, and they gained popularity for educational and decorative purposes.
