Derived from "Nouvel Atlas Portatif destine principalement pour l'instruction de la Jeunesse" or ("A New Portable Atlas Designed Primarily for the Instruction of Youth"). With original outline color showing the territories associated with the four major world religions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Paganism.
Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1686–1766) was a notable French cartographer and engraver renowned for his contributions to 18th-century cartography. He succeeded his father, Michel de Vaugondy, and became one of the leading figures in French mapmaking during his time. Gilles was known for producing accurate and artistically rich maps, often incorporating contemporary geographical knowledge and political boundaries. His works, including various atlases and individual maps, were influential in the development of cartography in France and helped disseminate geographical knowledge across Europe.
