Rare 1st French edition (1st: 1737) of P. De La Court Van Der Voort's influential reference work on the construction and design of country houses ("buitenplaatsen"), based on his personal experience with his own country house, Berbice (Voorschoten). This work is notable for its impact on garden history, including the design of orangery and garden walls. It also covers topics such as the heating of glasshouses and the cultivation of pineapples, lemons, oranges, etc.
4to: xxiv-[8]-412-[32] pp.; 15 plates (upper margin repaired, slightly browned). Features 15 large engravings by J. v.d. Spyk, F. v. Bleyswyck, J. Wandelaar, and J.C. Philips, illustrating greenhouses, a vegetable garden, citrus fruits, a pineapple, and more. De La Court Van Der Voort was the first European to successfully grow pineapples.
