Beskrivning
Original double-page color lithograph on wove paper from the 1961 edition of Derriere Le Miroir #130 by Raoul Ubac, limited edition of 150 copies and published by Maeght Éditeur in Paris.
Derrière Le Miroir was a publication that ran from 1946 to 1982, featuring prints by the era’s most celebrated Modernists. Produced by Galerie Maeght in Paris, the publication was dedicated to making art widely accessible at a time when many exiled artists and creative thinkers had just returned to France at the end of World War II.
Raoul Ubac (1910–1985) was a Belgian-born French artist renowned for his diverse work in photography, painting, and graphic arts. Initially influenced by surrealism, Ubac developed a distinctive style that incorporated both abstraction and figuration. His early career was marked by his photographic work, where he experimented with photographic techniques, creating haunting, surreal images. Over time, he transitioned to other mediums, including painting and lithography, often blending organic forms with abstract expression. His contributions to modern art also extended to collaborations with other avant-garde artists and his involvement in intellectual circles that shaped post-war French art.
