Original double-page color lithograph on wove paper from the 1980 edition of Derriere Le Miroir #237 by Claude Garache, limited edition of 150 copies and published by Maeght Éditeur in Paris.
Derrière Le Miroir was a publication that ran from 1946 to 1982, featuring prints by the era’s most celebrated Modernists. Produced by Galerie Maeght in Paris, the publication was dedicated to making art widely accessible at a time when many exiled artists and creative thinkers had just returned to France at the end of World War II.
Claude Garache (1927–2014) was a French artist known for his work as a painter and lithographer. His art often explored themes of abstraction, expressionism, and the human form, employing bold colors and dynamic compositions. Early in his career, Garache was influenced by surrealism and other avant-garde movements, but he later developed a unique style that focused on the inner workings of the human psyche and the complexity of human relationships.
