Bilder Johannes Janssonius (1588–1664) – "Braunswyck & Meydburg cum confiniis" – Hand-Colored Engraved Map of Brunswick and Magdeburg – Amsterdam (1651)

Beskrivning
This finely detailed copper-engraved map by Dutch cartographer and publisher Johannes Janssonius presents the duchies of Braunschweig (Brunswick) and Magdeburg along with their surrounding regions in early modern Germany. It was published in Amsterdam in 1651 as part of "Atlas Minor" by Gerhard Mercator, in the second German edition issued by Janssonius.
The map, titled "Braunswyck & Meydburg cum confiniis", features delicate border coloring (grenzkoloriert) and includes important geographical details: cities, rivers, forests, mountains, and political boundaries of the time. Cities like Leipzig, Halberstadt, and Wittenberg are marked, while artistic cartouches enhance its decorative appeal.
Janssonius was one of the leading mapmakers of the Dutch Golden Age and a key figure in the development of early atlases. His work continued the legacy of Mercator and contributed significantly to the advancement of European cartography.
