Bilder Giocondo Albertolli (1742–1839) – "Carrara Marble Fireplace Design for a Milanese Salon" – Hand-Colored Engraving by Andrea De Bernardi (c. 1770s)

Beskrivning
This refined neoclassical engraving presents an ornate fireplace design intended for an aristocratic salon in Milan, carved from Carrara marble. The structure is richly adorned with decorative moldings, fluted pilasters, urns, and an elaborate floral relief centerpiece. The composition balances architectural precision with ornamental flair — hallmarks of late 18th-century interior design.
The original design is attributed to Giocondo Albertolli, a prominent Swiss-Italian architect and professor at the Brera Academy in Milan, known for his sophisticated decorative schemes. The engraving itself was executed by Andrea De Bernardi, whose craftsmanship preserved the detail and elegance of Albertolli’s vision.
Though stylistically reminiscent of Giovanni Battista Piranesi’s architectural engravings, this work stands as a distinct example of Italian neoclassical design with clear authorship.
The print is subtly hand-colored, with blue and ochre tones enhancing the veining of the marble and the depth of architectural elements.
