Bilder Spigelius & Casserius – "Set of 2 Anatomical Plates – Digestive & Urogenital Dissections" – Copperplate Engravings (1645)
Beskrivning
This historical anatomical set includes two copperplate engravings from Lib. VIII of the influential 17th-century atlas attributed to Giulio Cesare Casseri (Casserius) and completed by Adrian van den Spieghel (Spigelius). The first plate (Tab. V) illustrates various organs of the digestive system, including stomach, intestines, and associated structures, presented through multiple dissection stages and views. The second plate (Tab. XX) features a dissection of the urogenital and excretory systems with detailed vascular and nerve structures surrounding the kidneys and bladder.
These engravings were produced for the 1645 edition of De Humani Corporis Fabrica, based on anatomical studies and designs by Odoardo Fialetti, combining Venetian Mannerist aesthetics with anatomical precision. The plates are marked by crisp linework, typographic labeling, and scientific clarity—hallmarks of early modern anatomical printing.
Together, they offer a rare and elegant glimpse into Renaissance-era medical knowledge and the visual language of anatomical science.
