The city of Olten is surrounded by a meander of the Aare River, with bridges connecting it to the opposite bank, churches overlooking the houses, and the Jura Mountains in the background, on which a castle rests.
Hand-coloured engraving originates from "Neue und vollständige Topographie der Eidgenossenschaft". The work was published by Johann Jakob Bodmer and Johann Rudolf Dold in Switzerland, 1754-58.
David Herrliberger (1697-1777) was a Swiss engraver active during the 18th century. He is known for his detailed and intricate engravings, often working on topographical and architectural subjects. Herrliberger contributed to various important works, including illustrations for geographic and city views. His style was influential in the development of Swiss engraving during his time.
