Bilder Jacob Theunisz – Map of The Coasts of England Between the Two Points of Portland and Lizard / De Custen van Engelant Tusschen de twee pointen van Poortlandt en Lezard - United Kingdom (1666)

Beskrivning
This map of the English coastline between the two points of Portland and Lizard was originally engraved by Jacob Theunisz for his 1644 Lichtende Colomne, Ofte Zee Spiegel. The present example features the plate number W 12 and includes the attribution By Jacob Theunisz Op't Water Inde Loots-man, marking this edition as one first published in 1666 by Caspar and Jacob Jacobsz, who adopted the name Lootsman to avoid confusion with their father.
The map is a fine example of Dutch cartography from the 17th century, decorated with vibrant hand-coloring and nautical details. The map is oriented with rhumb lines, marking maritime routes used for navigation, and includes elaborate borders and decorative elements, such as a compass rose and a ship. It reflects the growing importance of maritime navigation during the Golden Age of Dutch exploration and trade.
Jacob Theunisz, a key figure in Dutch map-making, was known for his detailed and decorative maritime charts, which played a critical role in navigation and were widely distributed in Europe.
