Hand-coloured map originates from John Tallis’s ”Illustrated Atlas”, the illustrations by H. Winkles, this map was engraved by John Rapkin and published by John Tallis & Co in London, 1851.
John Tallis (1817–1876) was a renowned British cartographer, publisher, and engraver, best known for his decorative and detailed maps and atlases during the mid-19th century. His work is particularly recognized for its artistic flair, often including intricate borders and vignette illustrations of landmarks, cityscapes, and cultural scenes.
