"Historische en Geographische Tafel"

This rare and elaborate table was designed by Caspar Specht to present a concise summary of the political geography of Europe in the early 18th century. The Historische en Geographische Tafel outlines the structure, size, nobility, church hierarchy, and universities of various European nations. It includes coats of arms of prominent royal families and knightly orders, all meticulously hand-colored. The information is arranged in a structured and didactic grid, making the work a practical tool for students and enthusiasts of geography and heraldry.
Originally compiled by Caspar Specht (ca. 1654–1710) and first issued in the early 18th century, this edition was later published in Amsterdam by G. de Groot & Sligting, in the 1740s.

Caspar Specht (ca. 1654–1710) was a Dutch compiler and engraver known for creating educational charts and heraldic tables. His works reflect a blend of artistic ornament and systematic knowledge, typical of Enlightenment-era Dutch publishing. This particular table was printed in Amsterdam by Reinier and Joshua Ottens before 1750 and later editions were issued by G. de Groot and S. Sligting.
