Decorative antique map of France showing the administrative division into 86 departments, published in Atlas Portatif du Royaume de France by Aristide Michel Perrot. The circular central map is framed with neoclassical ornaments and symbolic imagery exalting the sciences, arts, and patriotic virtues. Left and right borders include dedications to knowledge ("Aux sciences, lettres et arts") and to national heroism ("La gloire immortelle des héros et des citoyens") along with illustrative objects such as weapons and instruments.
Drawn by A.M. Perrot, engraved by Lallemand, and cartographically structured by Thierry. This map exemplifies the post-revolutionary reorganization of France and reflects the Enlightenment-era blend of art and geographic precision.
Aristide Michel Perrot (1793–1879) was a noted French geographer and engraver known for his finely decorated cartographic atlases aimed at education and public knowledge. His works combined aesthetic design with pedagogical clarity, often embellished with allegorical elements.
