Beskrivning
"Map of the Danish Isles, Sleswick, and Holstein"
This map was created by Thomas Kitchin, Senior, Hydrographer to His Majesty, and published in London on March 26, 1784 by T. Cadell. The engraving details the geography of Denmark’s major islands — including Zealand, Funen, and Lolland — as well as the regions of Sleswick (Schleswig) and Holstein. The map delineates borders, rivers, towns, and maritime routes, with clear coastal outlines and typographic clarity typical of Kitchin’s style.
Thomas Bowen was the son of Emanuel Bowen and continued the family tradition of map engraving. Though he died young, his work is recognized for maintaining the precision and quality established by his father. His maps appeared in many popular atlases and travel books of the period, contributing to public understanding of British geography in the Enlightenment era.
