Bilder Daniel Meisner (1585–1625) – Title Page for Libellus Novus Politicus Emblematum Civitates Pars Altra – Etching (Frankfurt, 1624)

Beskrivning
This emblematic title page from the rare second part (Pars Altra) of Libellus Novus Politicus Emblematum Civitates forms part of Daniel Meisner’s grand project Thesauri Philo-Politici, published in Frankfurt in 1624. The central cartouche is framed by six symbolic compositions representing ancient civilizations — Persia, Assyria, Graecia, and Roma — rendered as fantastic beasts and mythological hybrids. At the top, a radiant sun bears the motto Nemo Præsentior, while at the bottom, a medallion features the biblical phrase Confirmata est super nos beside an anchor. The work is both encyclopedic and allegorical, linking antique empires with moral and political reflections.
Daniel Meisner (1585–1625) is best known for this monumental series combining emblematic city views with moralizing Latin or German mottos, serving both as an artistic and ideological mirror of the early modern world.
