Beskrivning
This finely engraved and hand-colored map by Matthäus Seutter depicts the Imperial Circle of Swabia (Circulus Suevicus), with particular emphasis on the Duchy of Württemberg (Ducatus Wirtenbergensis) and surrounding principalities and territories within the Holy Roman Empire. The map is densely annotated with towns, rivers, mountains, and political boundaries, all rendered in vivid original color. The elaborate cartouche in the upper left corner bears the Latin title and attributes the engraving to Seutter’s studio in Augsburg. This map was part of Seutter’s acclaimed atlas publications in the first half of the 18th century, valued for their geographic detail and baroque ornamentation.
Matthäus Seutter (1678–1757) was one of the most important German cartographers of the 18th century and served as Imperial Geographer to Emperor Charles VI. His work marked a high point in German map production, blending scientific accuracy with decorative flourish.
