Bilder Nils Eklund & Johan Gustaf Giron (1844–1913) – Skogs-Lappar – Hand-Coloured Chromolithograph from the Lappar Ethnographic Series (c.1882)

Beskrivning
This original hand-coloured chromolithograph titled Skogs-Lappar (Forest Sámi) is part of the rare ethnographic series Lappar, produced in Stockholm in the early 1880s. The scene documents the everyday life of the forest-dwelling Sámi of northern Scandinavia, showing a timbered settlement with traditional log buildings, racks for drying fish or meat, and people dressed in Sámi costume performing domestic tasks. Rendered with careful ethnographic observation and soft romantic colouring, the print reflects Sweden’s late 19th-century interest in documenting indigenous life within its northern territories. The lithograph was executed by Nils Eklund and Johan Gustaf Giron, and printed by Axel Sahlin at Långholmen No. 3 in Stockholm.
Johan Gustaf Giron (1844–1913) was a Swedish artist and lithographer known for his contributions to scientific and cultural publications. Together with Nils Eklund, he created richly detailed chromolithographs that captured the ethnic diversity and natural environments of Sweden. Their collaborative work on the Lappar series remains one of the most visually compelling records of Sámi culture in the 19th century.
