A French translation of Antonio de Solís’ famous chronicle Historia de la conquista de México, originally written in Spanish. This 1730 Paris edition, titled Histoire de la Conquête du Mexique ou de la Nouvelle Espagne, is one of the most influential European accounts of Hernán Cortés’s campaign against the Aztec Empire.
Richly illustrated with 6 folding copperplate maps and plates, including scenes of battles and native rituals, the book is a key reference for colonial and Mesoamerican studies.
Condition Report
Bound in period full leather with raised bands and gilt tooling. The binding shows minor wear, and the plates exhibit some foxing, but the book is otherwise in excellent condition.
