Bilder Magnus von Wright (1805–1868) – Red Kite (Milvus Milvus) – Chromolithograph (1920)

Beskrivning
This exquisite chromolithograph of the Red Kite (Milvus Milvus), labeled as "Glada," is attributed to the works of Magnus von Wright, a distinguished Finnish ornithological illustrator and the first taxidermist at Helsinki University's zoological museum. Von Wright's mastery in capturing the fine details of avian species is evident in the intricate feather pattern and majestic stance of the Red Kite perched gracefully on a bare branch. His contribution to Finnish ornithology, including the first handbook on Finnish birds, remains a cornerstone in zoological illustration. This print, first published in 1920, showcases the vibrant coloration and meticulous attention to detail that chromolithography allows, preserving the natural beauty of the species in vivid form. Magnus von Wright's work is celebrated for its scientific accuracy and artistic elegance, continuing to be admired in ornithological collections.
Magnus von Wright (1805–1868) was the first taxidermist working with the vertebrate collections of Helsinki University. Starting out as a taxidermist in the 1820s, he stuffed birds for Societas pro Flora et Fauna Fennica, the oldest scientific society in Finland, and in 1845, became the taxidermist at the university's zoological museum. Von Wright made several study journeys to Stockholm and St. Petersburg, and even wrote a short manual on how to mount birds. Though a skilful taxidermist, his reputation, like that of his two brothers, Wilhelm and Ferdinand, rests on his skill as a zoological illustrator. In 1859 he published the first handbook on Finnish birds.
