This finely engraved map, titled Judée ou Terre Sainte, was created by the distinguished French cartographer Robert de Vaugondy and later corrected by Delamarche, a well-known geographer and publisher. The map provides an intricate depiction of the regions of Judea, Samaria, Galilee, and surrounding territories as described in biblical times. Borders are hand-colored to distinguish the twelve tribes of Israel, and the three main Roman divisions are marked in Palestine, each represented with different color outlines. Major cities, rivers, and mountain ranges are labeled with exquisite detail, reflecting de Vaugondy's commitment to precision and clarity. 

Vaugondy was one of the leading cartographers of his time, known for his collaboration with his father, Didier Robert de Vaugondy, in producing one of the most comprehensive atlases of the 18th century, Atlas Universel (1757). His work is renowned for its accuracy and artistic quality, blending scientific precision with artistic elegance. This particular map, enhanced by Delamarche, was part of an updated edition that sought to correct and expand geographical understanding, making it a valuable artifact for historical and biblical scholars.
