Bilder Robert de Vaugondy (1688–1766) – Map of Upper and Lower Saxony / Cercles de Haute-Saxe et de Basse-Saxe – Copperplate Engraving (c.1760)

Beskrivning
This finely engraved map, Cercles de Haute-Saxe et de Basse-Saxe, created by the esteemed French cartographer Robert de Vaugondy, presents a detailed view of the regions of Upper Saxony (Haute-Saxe) and Lower Saxony (Basse-Saxe) in Germany. The map is hand-colored to delineate borders between different duchies, electorates, and principalities, reflecting the complex political landscape of the Holy Roman Empire during the mid-18th century. Major cities such as Dresden, Leipzig, and Hanover are clearly marked, alongside rivers, mountain ranges, and regional boundaries.
Vaugondy was one of the leading cartographers of his time, known for his collaboration with his father, Didier Robert de Vaugondy, in producing one of the most comprehensive atlases of the 18th century, Atlas Universel (1757). His work is renowned for its accuracy and artistic quality, blending scientific precision with artistic elegance. This particular map, enhanced by Delamarche, was part of an updated edition that sought to correct and expand geographical understanding, making it a valuable artifact for historical and biblical scholars.
