Bilder Bernard de Montfaucon (1655–1741) – Mensis September – Symbolic Representation of September – Copperplate Engraving from L'Antiquité expliquée et représentée en figures (1719)

Beskrivning
This beautifully detailed copperplate engraving depicts the symbolic personification of the month of September, labeled "Mensis September" at the top. The central figure, represented in classical form, holds a scepter adorned with symbols of harvest and gestures towards baskets, signifying the collection of seasonal fruits and agricultural abundance. The drapery flowing behind him adds a sense of movement and elegance to the composition. At the bottom, the Latin verse "AVSONII TETRASTICHON" poetically describes the essence of September as a time of harvest and preparation.
This engraving is part of Bernard de Montfaucon's monumental work L'Antiquité expliquée et représentée en figures, published in 1719.
