Bilder Johan Mankell (1813–1896) – KONUNGENS ANDRA LIVGARDE – Hand-Coloured Lithograph from Svenska Arméns Uniformer (1864)

Beskrivning
This original hand-coloured lithograph depicts the Konungens Andra Livgarde (King’s Second Life Guard), one of the most prestigious ceremonial regiments of the Swedish army. The composition centers around an evening street scene with guardsmen in parade dress — including high bearskin shakos, sabres, and blue dress tunics — gathered under gaslight near a palace or barracks. A young drummer boy in full regalia stands in the foreground. Surrounding the scene is an elaborate architectural frame featuring Gothic towers, crests, commemorative inscriptions from 1792 and 1818, and symbolic draped banners. This plate is part of Johan Mankell’s 1864 folio series Svenska Arméns Uniformer, which meticulously documented the uniforms of Swedish regiments in historical and contemporary form.
