Beskrivning

This finely engraved map presents the central regions of France, including Berry, Bourbonnais, Nivernais, Lyonnais, Bourgogne, Bresse, and Franche-Comté. Created by Robert de Vaugondy and issued around 1790, the map outlines major towns, rivers, and historical provincial borders, reflecting the geography of France on the eve of the Revolution. The clean copperplate engraving and subtle hand-coloring demonstrate the clarity and elegance characteristic of Vaugondy’s work.

Robert de Vaugondy (1723–1786) was a renowned French cartographer and geographer to the King of France. Together with his father Gilles Robert de Vaugondy, he produced some of the most influential atlases of the 18th century, including the Atlas Universel. Known for their accuracy and artistic engraving, the Vaugondy maps remain key historical documents of pre-Revolutionary Europe.
