This original engraving presents a detailed reproduction of a hieroglyphic frieze taken from the tombs at Thebes, Egypt, as recorded by Dominique Vivant Denon during Napoleon's expedition. The composition is divided into several registers densely filled with symbolic figures, deities, sacred animals, and hieroglyphic inscriptions. It is a faithful archaeological rendering of funerary scenes from ancient Egyptian burial chambers, showing processions, ritual offerings, and divine encounters associated with the afterlife. The image was published in Denon's monumental work Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Égypte, issued in Paris in 1802 following the French campaign in Egypt.

Dominique Vivant Denon (1747–1825) was a French artist, writer, diplomat, and the first director of the Louvre. He accompanied Napoleon Bonaparte on the Egyptian expedition and was tasked with recording antiquities and architecture throughout the Nile Valley. His Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Égypte became one of the most influential works in the dissemination of Egyptian art and archaeology in Europe, helping to spark the wave of Egyptomania that defined 19th-century art and design.
