Beskrivning
Vue perspective du Palais Royal de la Sarcuela, maison de plaisance du roy d’Espagne
This hand-colored etching presents an optical view of the Royal Palace of La Zarzuela near Madrid, shown with formal terraces, balustrades, and garden architecture. Figures stroll through the scene, and the mountainous background reinforces the idealized charm of royal leisure. Designed for use with a zograscope, this perspective print was published in Paris by Daumont, one of the foremost producers of vue d’optique images in 18th-century France.
Jean-François Daumont was a prominent French printmaker and publisher active in Paris between 1740 and 1780. His workshop specialized in hand-colored optical prints that illustrated grand European architecture, cityscapes, and exotic scenes. Printed on prepared paper and often enhanced with vivid watercolor, these works catered to the Enlightenment fascination with travel, perspective, and spectacle.
