Bilder Ulrik Thersner (1779–1828) – View of Schwerin Castle – Engraving from Fordna och närvarande Sverige (1828–1867)

Beskrivning
This beautifully executed engraving by Ulrik Thersner presents a panoramic view of Schwerin Castle, depicted in a serene natural landscape with architectural detail characteristic of early 19th-century topographical work. The plate originates from Fordna och närvarande Sverige (Ancient and Modern Sweden), a landmark publication illustrating Sweden’s most important castles, estates, and monuments. Issued in parts from 1828 to 1867, the series reflects a national effort to document the country’s architectural and historical heritage during a period of cultural resurgence.
Ulrik Thersner (1779–1828) was a Swedish military officer and topographical artist. He began his naval service as a child during Gustav III's Russian War and eventually rose to the rank of major in the Swedish Surveying Brigade. From 1804 onward, Thersner was engaged in hydrographic and topographical documentation across Sweden, culminating in the publication of Fordna och
närvarande Sverige, one of the most significant visual records of the nation’s historic architecture.
