Bilder Frederik de Wit (1630–1706) – Map of the Transisalania Provincia Vulgo Over-Yssel / Province of Overijssel – Hand-Coloured Copper Engraving (c.1680)

Beskrivning
Original Latin title: Transisalania Provincia Vulgo Over-Yssel, Auctore N. ten Have, Emendata a F. de Wit. This detailed regional map depicts the Dutch province of Overijssel (Over-Yssel), including key towns such as Zwolle, Kampen, and Deventer, as well as surrounding river systems, farmlands, and forests. The map is bordered by finely hand-coloured political divisions and adorned with an elaborate cartouche in the lower left, featuring a coat of arms, livestock, and two allegorical figures representing trade and agriculture. A compass rose and ships on the Zuiderzee (De Zuyder Zee) further enhance the decorative appeal. The map was corrected and published by Frederik de Wit based on earlier surveys by Nicolaes ten Have.
Frederik de Wit was one of the most important Dutch cartographers and map publishers of the 17th century. Based in Amsterdam, he produced a wide range of atlases, sea charts, and wall maps admired for their accuracy and aesthetic quality. His works contributed significantly to the dissemination of geographic knowledge during the early modern period, and his maps remain highly collectible today.
