This finely detailed copperplate map titled Comitatus Namurci Tabula depicts the County of Namur in present-day Belgium. It includes rivers, towns, fortified cities, and surrounding regions, engraved with high precision. The layout features a decorative title cartouche in the upper right corner with mythological and pastoral figures, including cherubs presenting a coat of arms and a draughtsman working at a map table — a symbolic nod to the cartographer’s profession. The Meuse River and its tributaries are clearly marked, and the region’s borders are delineated according to the late 17th-century territorial divisions.

Frederik de Wit was a leading Dutch cartographer and publisher based in Amsterdam. He is renowned for his exceptional atlases, wall maps, and city views, which were widely circulated throughout Europe. De Wit’s work is characterized by a blend of scientific accuracy and baroque ornamentation, and his maps were both practical tools and collector’s items. His publishing house remained active well into the 18th century and helped define the visual language of Dutch Golden Age cartography.
