This copperplate engraving titled Birds, Tab. III presents a diverse collection of avian species, each finely rendered and labeled with both common and Latinized names. The plate includes depictions of the Humming Bird, Jay, Cock of the Mountain, Grosbeak, Kingfisher, Bustard, Merula, Merlin, Mimus, Ostrich, Starwort, Crossbill, Oriolus, and others. Each bird is shown in profile or perched, emphasizing species-specific details such as beak shapes, plumage patterns, and posture. The engraving is designed for educational use within the encyclopedic work of Chambers and Rees.

Ephraim Chambers (c.1680–1740) established a groundbreaking model for organizing scientific and technical knowledge through his original Cyclopaedia. Abraham Rees (1743–1825) greatly expanded the work in the late 18th century, adding richly engraved plates that visualized zoology, botany, and technology. These illustrations helped standardize the classification and visual language of natural history in Enlightenment-era Britain.
