Bilder Wilhelm Meves & August Emil Holmgren – Landbjörn (Ursus arctos, Linn.) – Hand-Coloured Lithograph from Atlas de los mamíferos de Escandinavia (1873)

Beskrivning
This finely hand-coloured lithograph depicts the brown bear (Ursus arctos, Linn.) in three life stages: a standing adult male in winter coat, a two-year-old juvenile, and a cub in March. The scene is rendered in a snowy landscape, capturing the Scandinavian wilderness with remarkable naturalism. It is plate PL.VII from the Atlas de los mamíferos de Escandinavia, produced in Stockholm in 1873.
Illustrated by Wilhelm Meves and authored by August Emil Holmgren, this rare zoological atlas is admired for its elegant depiction of Nordic fauna, blending scientific precision with aesthetic sensitivity. The chromolithography by Ad. Le Febure & Schaeffer remains a hallmark of 19th-century natural history illustration.
