This finely executed copperplate engraving features three views of deer: a resting stag seen from behind, a walking stag viewed from the rear, and a profile of a spotted deer in full stride. Each figure is rendered with close attention to musculature, antler formation, and texture of the coat, reflecting the 17th-century fascination with animal anatomy and natural observation. The bottom deer may represent a fallow deer, noted for its palmate antlers and distinctive spotted pattern.

Frederic de Wit, one of the leading mapmakers and publishers of the Dutch Golden Age, also produced scientific and natural history prints in his Amsterdam workshop. His engravings provided valuable reference materials for collectors, scholars, and early zoologists.
