This elegant copperplate engraving by Jacques de Sève depicts L'Albatros, the majestic oceanic bird, standing proudly on a rocky outcrop surrounded by waves. With finely engraved feathers and poised anatomy, the image conveys the bird’s imposing presence and association with open seas. The print is labeled Tom. XX, Pl. XXIV, Pag. 344, and originates from Buffon’s Histoire Naturelle, one of the most significant zoological works of the Enlightenment era.
