Beskrivning

A woodcut print from a page of an old text, featuring two separate illustrations of monstrous creatures. The top image depicts conjoined human twins, while the lower image shows a "monstrous pig" with multiple limbs and a second head. Both illustrations are accompanied by detailed descriptions in old English, providing accounts of these unusual births as they were understood in the 17th century. The print serves as a document of early modern beliefs about natural curiosities and abnormalities.

Ulisse Aldrovandi was an Italian naturalist and polymath who made significant contributions to the study of natural history. A professor at the University of Bologna, he amassed one of the most extensive cabinets of curiosities of his time and authored a monumental series of encyclopedias documenting the animal, plant, and mineral kingdoms. His works, including his books on ornithology, were influential for centuries and are considered foundational texts in the history of science and natural illustration.
