Beskrivning
This detailed, hand-coloured Map, titled "Map of France, Cattle Breeds," is a specialized thematic map of France. The map uses distinct pastel colors and overlaid lines, explained in the extensive legend on the left side, to delineate the geographical distribution of various indigenous cattle breeds and their influence across different French departments and regions. This print is sourced from Émile Baudement’s authoritative work, Les races bovines au concours universel agricole de Paris in 1856. Études zootechniques (The Cattle Breeds at the Universal Agricultural Exhibition of Paris in 1856. Zootechnical Studies), published by the Imprimerie Impériale.
Émile Baudement was a French agricultural scientist and professor of zootechnics at the Conservatoire des arts et métiers. He was commissioned by the French government to document the world's finest cattle breeds following the 1856 Paris exhibition, resulting in this scientifically and artistically significant zootechnical atlas.
