This detailed hydrographic map charts the coast of Angola, West Africa, encompassing the region between the Bengo River and the Quanza (Cuanza) River. The map prominently features the key Portuguese colonial city of São Paulo de Luanda (Ville de St. Paul de Loanda) and the adjacent Island of Luanda. The work provides essential nautical and geographical details for navigators, including coastal profiles, the location of rivers, and an extensive key describing a watering place and other local resources. This map was created by Bellin as the French Hydrographer to the King and published in the influential geographical compilation, the Histoire Générale des Voyages.

Jacques-Nicolas Bellin was a highly significant French cartographer, hydrographer, and geographer of the 18th century. Appointed Chief Cartographer and Ingénieur de la Marine to the French Navy, he produced an immense and highly regarded body of work, known for its precision and clarity.
