The map vividly depicts the Caspian Sea, the Aral Sea (Mer de Karazm), and the complex network of rivers, mountains, and caravan routes across the region, including parts of modern-day Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran. The cartouche highlights that the map's geographical data was compiled from English sources. This detailed map was published as a geographical supplement in the exhaustive French compendium, the Histoire Générale des Voyages.

Jacques-Nicolas Bellin was a highly significant French cartographer, hydrographer, and geographer of the 18th century. Appointed Chief Cartographer and Ingénieur de la Marine to the French Navy, he produced an immense and highly regarded body of work, known for its precision and clarity. His specialized charts and maps, which formed the foundation of French maritime and geographical knowledge during the Age of Enlightenment, were widely disseminated through major publications.
