Bilder Jules Chéret (1836–1932) – Drawing for the "Concert Yvette" Poster (Bonus Plate from Les Maîtres de l'Affiche) – Chromolithograph (Circa 1896–1900)
Beskrivning
This print is a unique design, featuring an artist at work on a poster for "Concert Yvette" (referencing the famous singer Yvette Guilbert), and was issued as a special supplement to the influential Art Nouveau portfolio Les Maîtres de l'Affiche (The Masters of the Poster). The image depicts a dynamic figure, a self-portrait of the artist, seated on a stool and rapidly sketching the core elements of the poster design onto a large sheet. The print is executed primarily in sanguine (red-brown) tones, giving it the appearance of a sketch or lithographic study. It was printed by the Imprimerie Chaix, as indicated in the margin, which published the entire collection of poster reproductions.
Jules Chéret was a French painter and lithographer universally acknowledged as the "father of the modern poster." Working during the Belle Époque, he revolutionized poster design by introducing vibrant colors, lively movement (epitomized by his "Chérettes"), and the bold use of lithography, shifting the poster from dense text announcements to engaging artistic prints. Chéret was the artistic director of the Les Maîtres de l'Affiche series (1895–1900), which
reproduced the best posters of the era for collectors.
