Beskrivning
This print is a detailed natural history illustration depicting three different species of fish, deep-sea or elongated species from the Indian and Pacific Oceans. This volume belongs to the continuation of the original Histoire Naturelle, written by Bernard Germain de Lacépède after Buffon's death.
Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon was a renowned French naturalist and author of the colossal Histoire Naturelle, générale et particulière. The volume containing this print belongs to the later continuation of the work by Bernard Germain de Lacépède (1756–1825), which covered fishes and other groups. Lacépède's volumes, published in Paris by Plassan between 1798 and 1803, were an encyclopedic effort to document the world's ichthyology with systematic descriptions and detailed engravings.
