Bilder Jan Sadeler (1550–1600) – Jonah Spat Up by the Whale – Engraving (Circa 1580)
Beskrivning
This print is an engraving depicting the Biblical scene Jonah Spat Up by the Whale. The central foreground features the nude, muscular figure of Jonah, kneeling in exhaustion and gratitude on a small bank as he emerges from the open jaws of the large sea monster (often interpreted as a whale). The background shows a port and a stormy sea, with sailing ships and the walls of a city, and columns of smoke rising from distant buildings. The composition dramatically contrasts the figure's ordeal with the expansive, troubled landscape.
