This engraving is a detailed plan of the city and port of Macao. It shows the strategic layout of the Macao peninsula, identifying "La Ville" (The City), its fortifications, the main port, and the surrounding harbor ("Rade de Macao"). This map was published in Volume V of the monumental 18th-century travel collection, Histoire Générale des Voyages.

Antoine François Prévost, commonly known as Abbé Prévost, was a French author and historian. While famous for his novel Manon Lescaut, he is also renowned for compiling and editing the massive multi-volume work Histoire Générale des Voyages, which documented global exploration and was celebrated for its detailed maps and illustrations.
