Beskrivning
This engraving is a nautical chart detailing several bays on the coast of New Holland (Australia), including "From York Bay to Three Island Bay and Harbour" and "St. Davids Bay." The map includes soundings and rhumb lines, created for navigational purposes. It was published to accompany the 1774 French edition of Hawkesworth's atlas, Relation des voyages, which chronicled Captain James Cook's first voyage.
John Hawkesworth was an English writer and editor. He was commissioned by the Admiralty to compile and edit the official account of Captain Cook's first voyage, along with the voyages of Byron, Wallis, and Carteret.
