This hand-coloured engraving is a detailed map of the Kingdom of Scotland, illustrating its counties, major cities (Edinburgh, Glasgow), numerous islands (Hebrides, Orkney, Shetland), lochs, and mountainous terrain. The map features outline colour differentiating the traditional divisions of the country. It was published in Le Rouge's Atlas Nouveau Portatif.
Georges-Louis Le Rouge was a prominent French cartographer, engraver, and publisher based in Paris. Active in the mid-18th century, he held the title of "Ingénieur Géographe du Roi" (Geographical Engineer to the King). He is known for producing numerous atlases, individual maps, and plans covering various parts of the world, including detailed maps of European countries and fortifications.
