This hand-coloured engraved map provides a detailed overview of South America ("Amerique Meridionale") from approximately the Equator southward. It delineates the major regions and colonial territories of the mid-18th century, including Peru, Chile, Paraguay, Brazil, and Patagonia, along with significant river systems like the Amazon and Rio de la Plata. The map features outline colour and includes islands such as Juan Fernandez and the Galapagos. It was published in Le Rouge's Atlas Nouveau Portatif.

Georges-Louis Le Rouge was a prominent French cartographer, engraver, and publisher based in Paris. Active in the mid-18th century, he held the title of "Ingénieur Géographe du Roi" (Geographical Engineer to the King). He is known for producing numerous atlases, individual maps, and plans covering various parts of the world, noted for their detail and decorative elements.
