This hand-coloured engraved map presents the continent of Asia based on contemporary geographical knowledge ("Nouvelles decouvertes"). It details regions from Arabia and Persia through India, China, and Siberia, extending to Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia ("Isles de la Sonde"), and part of New Holland (Australia). The map uses outline colour to delineate various empires and regions and includes a decorative landscape cartouche. It was published in Le Rouge's Atlas Nouveau Portatif.
Georges-Louis Le Rouge was a prominent French cartographer, engraver, and publisher based in Paris. Active in the mid-18th century, he held the title of "Ingénieur Géographe du Roi" (Geographical Engineer to the King). He is known for producing numerous atlases, individual maps, and plans covering various parts of the world, noted for their detail and decorative elements.
