Bilder Pietro Santi Bartoli (1635–1700) – Marine Venus (Upper and Lower Frieze) – Engraving (Circa 1693)
Beskrivning
This engraving is divided into two frieze panels, both depicting scenes involving the goddess Venus in a marine context. The upper panel, titled "Venus Marine," shows Venus riding a sea monster (possibly a hippocampus or sea-centaur) surrounded by various sea deities. The lower panel shows another marine triumph scene. The plate is from the monumental antiquarian work, Recueil de Peintures Antiques, which documents classical Roman murals and sculptures.
Pietro Santi Bartoli was an Italian engraver, antiquarian, and painter. He is renowned for his detailed engravings that documented and preserved the imagery of classical antiquity, particularly the frescoes and wall paintings found in Roman ruins, including the "Domus Aurea" of Nero.
